Your laptop power supply
is an essential item. It allows you to operate your
laptop computer while simultaneously recharging the
machine's battery.
However the laptop power cable
represents a possible area of frustration.
Virtually all laptop power cords
include some sort of transformer (sometimes called
a power brick) that prepares the electricity for use
by your laptop. These bricks range in shape and size,
but they’re roughly a little bigger than a deck
of cards.
Sometimes the brick is part of
the plug that goes into the wall; other times, it’s
somewhere closer to the middle of cord.
"So what?" you may
ask.
The problem is that the brick
takes up extra space...
Picture your power cable with
a brick and wall plug as one assembly. If you need
to plug your laptop into a standard wall receptacle,
it may obscure another receptacle, rendering the second
one useless.
If you’re plugging into
a power strip, you need the receptacle at the very
end of the strip. In either scenario, if the outlet
you need is already occupied, there’s an extra
measure of hassle added to what should be a very simple
procedure.
All other things equal,
look for a power cord that positions the brick somewhere
away from the actual wall plug.
